100 Women Who Care

In December, Big Brothers Big Sisters was honoured with an invitation to make a presentation to the Halifax group 100 Women Who Care. Consisting of well over 100 local women, the group meets quarterly to hear selected, local organizations talk about their programs and the impact they have on the Greater Halifax community. Members of the group then vote for which organization they would like to support. Each member of the group donates $100 to the chosen organization.

We were extremely pleased to have been the charity of choice in December. You can see the presentation made to the group by our Executive Director, Carol Goddard by clicking here. So far, nearly $17,000 in donations have come in from the generous women who made a commitment to support worthy causes in the community.

What this means for Big Brothers Big Sisters is an increased ability to meet the ever-growing demand for our youth mentoring programs. Every year, we set a goal to increase the number of children we serve, and along with this goal, we must also increase the resources needed to deliver these programs. In 2013, we served almost 500 children, but even with this tremendous success, we always have a waiting list of children in need of our programs; and often this list has over 100 names.

We are determined to work toward meeting this need, and organizations like 100 Women Who Care will help us get there. Thanks so much to these generous women who are truly making a difference.
