2012 Inspire Award Recipients Announced

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax announces
2012 Inspire Award Recipients

Several notable Haligonians have been announced as recipients of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Inspire Awards.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax believes in the value of mentoring, as evidenced by their ongoing commitment to delivering quality, youth mentoring programs. They also recognize that mentoring takes place throughout the community in many waysbeyond these programs. Business leaders, people in uniform, teachers, coaches, community elders, neighbours, artists, family members, athletes, people from all walks of life, can be amazing mentors who inspire others to achieve their goals. As a tribute to this work, the following inspiring people have been named as 2012 recipients:

INSPIRE Imagination (Award Patron – Nova Scotia Power)
Fosters creativity, artistry, innovation, vision, or entrepreneurship.
Award Recipient: Texttens (J.L. Ilsley Students, Junior Achievement Company Program)

INSPIRE Service (in memory of Private Nathan Smith)
Encourages heroism, service of country or community, peace, public health and safety.
Award Recipient:  Chief Frank Beazley (Halifax Regional Police)

INSPIRE Learning 
Encourages learning, personal development, and the quest of knowledge.
Award Recipient: The Honourable Myra Freeman    

INSPIRE Leadership (Award Patron – Scotiabank)
Leads by example, and encourages others to pursue their talents.
Award Recipient: Dr. John Christie (Dentist, Dalhousie Faculty)

INSPIRE Community Spirit (Award Patron – Atlantic Lottery Corporation)
Fosters community spirit through advocacy or volunteer efforts to make the community a better place.
Award Recipient:  Stephen O’Regan & (the late) Paul O’Regan

INSPIRE Public Service (Award Patron – Alexander Keith’s)
Holds a position of public service and truly fosters the development and strength of the community.
Award Recipient: The Honourable Marilyn More, MLA
