Halifax, NS – For Immediate Release

Media Advisory – Unauthorized Donation Solicitation

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax wishes to advise the public that we have had several reports of individuals going door-to-door around HRM soliciting cash donations allegedly on our behalf. The organization currently does not have any fundraising initiatives of this type taking place, and we suggest potential donors not give funds to  someone at the door soliciting donations. The individuals in question have been requesting donations to send children to camp or to support a curling event, neither of which are actual campaigns.

If you suspect a person is soliciting funds without the knowledge of the organization, and without the intent of turning these donations over to the agency, please do not hesitate to contact the Police. If you do wish to make a donation to the Big Brothers Big Sisters, please do so with the organization directly by calling 902-466-5437.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax is able to provide valuable programs for young people in our community through the generosity of donors and businesses who support our work. All of our fundraising endeavours (including pledge campaigns, events and our clothing donation initiative) are well-publicized and are listed on our agency website www.bigbrothersbigsistershalifax.ca

Our annual pledge collection campaign is Bowl for Kids Sake, which typically takes place between January and March each year. People fundraising on our behalf should have registered with the agency, and have professional, agency branded materials to support the campaign. Donations made to our campaigns are eligible for official charitable tax receipts issued under our Charitable Registration Number.
