Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax is pleased to host a provincial dialogue on volunteer screening in the non-profit sector, on Monday October 7th, 2013.

This provincial gathering is designed to stimulate dialogue and learning on all aspects of volunteer screening in the non-profit sector. The morning will focus on understanding volunteer screening as a multi-faceted and ongoing process as well as various background checks that may be included. The afternoon will present stimulating case scenarios on volunteer screening from agencies across Nova Scotia.  Resource persons from across the province will mingle throughout the day with participants to understand current practices, learn about innovative ideas and projects and discuss options for changes. Activating this dialogue will potentially lead to further conversations and actions with the common focus of increasing the overall capacity of citizens in Nova Scotia to volunteer and for non-profit agencies to effectively manage their volunteer services.

Supported by Volunteerism and the Non-Profit Sector Division of the NS Department of Labour and Advanced Education, this dialogue is of interest to policy makers as well as sector agencies. This day provides an educational forum as well as a platform to discuss and recommend potential changes to improve volunteer screening processes in Nova Scotia.
