Ian MacKnight_resized
We are deeply saddened to share the news that Big Brothers Big Sisters has lost a tremendous champion and steadfast advocate. Ian MacKnight passed away suddenly on December 24; a profound loss for his family, our organization and our entire community. Ian will be remembered as a kind and generous man who always led by example. He believed in family and mentoring, as evidenced in the way he engaged his children, Heather and Angus, in his volunteer efforts. They witnessed first-hand how compassionate and kind their father truly was even beyond his role as "Dad", and how these traits were present in everything he did.

During his tenure as the President of our agency Board of Directors and later as a member of our national Board of Directors, Ian dedicated his time to improving the lives of young people across Canada. He was humble and hard-working, passionately believed in the cause and inspired many others to do the same. His volunteer efforts as the Chair of the steering committee for our annual Golf for Kids Sake tournament had a direct impact on the lives of hundreds of children - his legacy will be measured in potential fulfilled, confidence gained and personal achievements of these children.

We are proud to have had the privilege to know and work with Ian. He was a highly respected mentor and friend. Our thoughts are with his family.

We are humbled to learn that Ian's family has indicated Big Brothers Big Sisters as a recipient of donations in recognition of his life's work. You can access his legacy page by clicking here.
