Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax Announces Community Mentoring Awards

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax is pleased to be celebrating the 40th Anniversary of delivering quality mentoring programs for children and youth. This milestone honours thousands of positive relationships between deserving children and caring mentors.

To commemorate the impact of mentoring across the community, Big Brothers Big Sisters is presenting Community Mentoring Awards to more than 40 deserving recipients. "We know mentoring takes place across our community in many forms, both formally as in business, and informally as in friendships and family relationships," says Gerry Pettipas, Chair of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Board of Directors. "Mentoring happens everywhere, every day, in ways as diverse as our community. It is often quiet and inconspicuous, but always incredibly impactful."

A committee did an extensive search to find individuals who have had a significant impact as mentors.  Each of these individuals has made a difference in our community, and each of them has identified how a mentor has played an important role in their own lives. It is apparent that instilling a culture of mentoring in our community has far-reaching and positive benefits for everyone who lives here.
