Go Girls!

Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds is a mentoring program designed to encourage physical activity participation, healthy eating choices, and the development of a positive self-image, among girls ages 12-14.

According to a wide array of research, physical activity levels of young women significantly decline in adolescence. This age group often struggles with issues regarding healthy eating, body image and relationships.

Go Girls!

Program
Developed for girls, ages 12-14, Go Girls! uses a mentor approach to provide girls with the information and support they need to make informed choices about healthy active living during a particularly challenging stage of development.

Maintaining sensitivity towards emotional, social and cultural issues, Go Girls! addresses topics such as physical activity participation, healthy eating choices, self-image and relationships.

How it Works
Go Girls! is a program led by community mentors who report to a Big Brothers Big Sisters Staff member who is coordinating the program. The program in past has been led within the HRSB schools, community centers and Boys and Girls Club locations throughout the city.

Mentors are responsible to attend a 2 day training session where they prepare for the program with a Big Brothers Big Sisters staff member. This training session along with ongoing B.B.B.S. support will provide mentors with all the tools they need in order to run a successful seven session program within the community.
